We just added “So What” by DOE & Lecrae to Project 88.7!
“So What” is about people–especially on social media–having opinions about you, even without having true knowledge of you and what’s going on in your life. So many of us can relate to this. Whether you’ve faced being misjudged and misunderstood by people, been gossiped about, faced bullying, or something else, you probably know what it’s like to have someone have an opinion about you, your life, or what God has called you to do that isn’t fully accurate.
Two Bible verses come to mind when I think about this:
Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant. (Galatians 1:10 NLT)
Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. (Galatians 6:4 NLT)
In the Bible, the apostle Paul had people who misjudged and misrepresented him and his work for Jesus, often deliberately. So, he had some principles that helped keep him grounded and that he could encourage others with as well. When you’re tempted to be distracted by the opinions of people whose opinions don’t align with God’s Word and what He says about your life:
(1) Keep your eyes on Jesus. Focus on serving Him and living for His approval, whether that makes you understood by people and popular or not. (2) Focus on doing the work He’s called you to do. Stay faithful and glorify Him in whatever He has placed before you to steward in this season. Don’t compare yourself to others.
And, entrust your situation and your critics into the wise and loving hands of God. Let Him defend you and let Him take care of others’ attitudes and opinions about you.
Lyrics
[Verse 1: DOE]
Everybody got them strong opinions, oh no
Talking like they walking in my shoes and they know
Making up scenarios, they hide in they phone
Can’t just leave it alone (Don’t do it, girl, it’s not worth it)
Twitter wars in my face and
I don’t like what you sayin’
Giving into temptation
Passive aggression
Keep it up and you gon’ find me in your DMs
I’ma get this off my chest, and l’ma repent
[Chorus: DOE]
Uh, so what?
I ain’t tryna be cool, I’m tryna be love
So what?
I ain’t tryna be fake, I’m coming in plush
So what?
I don’t care about you, I care about trust
So what?
[Verse 2: Lecrae & DOE]
Yeah, so what?
Talk your talk, I might just blow up (Woo)
Too much (Yeah)
Talk about me online, just grow up
Or pull up (Pull up)
Hop out my DMs and say to my face (What?)
Ain’t nothin ‘tween us except empty space (Don’t do it, girl, it’s not worth it)
Go get some business ’cause mine ain’t your place
Y’all playin’ on my phone
Swear you know what’s in my home
Never been in my time zone
Y’all ain’t keepin’ my lights on, uh
Yeah, uh, I know God don’t like petty (Nope)
But some of these folks ain’t ready (Yeah)
So help me when it’s heavy
So what?
[Chorus: DOE]
So what?
I ain’t tryna be cool, I’m tryna be love
So what?
I ain’t tryna be fake, I’m coming in plush
So what?
I don’t care about you, I care about trust
So what?
[Post-Chorus: DOE]
You really got me now, you really got it
I tried to stuff it down, I tried to hold it
You really got me now, you really got it
I tried to stuff it down, I tried to hold it
[Chorus: DOE]
Uh, so what?
I ain’t tryna be cool, I’m tryna be love
So what?
I ain’t tryna be fake, I’m coming in plush
So what?
I don’t care about you, I care about trust
So what?
[Post-Chorus: DOE]
You really got me now, you really got it
So what?
I tried to stuff it down, I tried to hold it
So what?
You really got me now, you really got it
So what?
I tried to stuff it down, I tried to hold it
