I will never arrive.
I don’t know about you, but I get exhausted quickly when I hear about this truth. It’s foundation is rooted in 2 Timothy 3:7 that says we are “always learning, but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
Sugarcoated versions go something like, “God’s love is so deep, we will never be able to experience its end.” Or, “God’s greatness is so vast, we will live a lifetime and barely scratch the surface of understanding Him.”
The not-so-comfy explanation however is found in the handful of verses before 7. A long list of all the ways humanity will be vile to itself, and others.
So we get to the end of the day, we realize how we’ve fallen short, we go to God for grace, forgiveness, and we start the next day all over again. Only to realize shortly thereafter, that we still don’t get it.
We never arrive.
If you’re not aware of how grossly short you are from the mark, may I invite you to open your heart for examination, and read 2 Timothy 3 right now. The destination may be a lifetime away, but your next stop could be right now.
