There are few phrases that can make our stomach drop like “We need to talk.” Whether your a kid hearing this from a parent or you’re hearing it from your significant other, rarely is the conversation that follows something we were hoping would drop in our lap.
But what if we reclaimed that phrase? What if, instead of dreading it, we saw it as an invitation–especially when it comes from God?
As we read through the Bible, we read about God calling His people into a conversation with Him. Not to condem, but to restore. Not to shame, but to love and guide. God constantly invites us to talk with Him. He invites us into honest conversation where we can bring our doubts, failures, and burdens, and find grace and peace in return.
I think we can avoid that invitation too much as we shrink in fear of what the conversation may hold. But my encouragement to you is to just lean in and listen.
“We need to talk” can be scary. But it can also be an invitation to healing, to better living, and deeper understanding of how to do this whole “living” thing better every day.
