If you read the Bible at all, you know our world is going to get worse as we draw closer to the end.
Paul told us that “there will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, brutal, treacherous, rash, conceited, without self-control…”
Gee, Paul… depressed much?
But then Jesus said in Matthew 24:12, that “because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.”
Ok. The big guy is on the same page.
Which makes me wonder as the political aisles trade sides from “it’s great” to “run for the hills”–are we moving towards the end no matter what?
If everything’s great, then we typically take our eyes off God, basking in the glow of comfort and contentment. If everything’s horrible, we’re taking our eyes off God as we wallow in the shadows filled with mistrust and bitterness.
Are either of those places much different? Either way, we’re probably finding a few things in Paul’s lecture that rings a bit too close to home.
So this week, celebrate. Or not. That’s fine. But if you’re finding yourself replacing God with any of it, the end times might be closer than you actually think.
And that’s more frightening than any leading headline on The View (or Fox News).
