We just added “Church Jumpin” by Caleb Gordon to Project 88.7!
“Church Jumpin” has a deep message that will hit home for a lot of people. In the first verse, Caleb Gordon speaks to something many people have felt–fear that if they go to a church they’ll be judged and criticized. He even challenges Christians to be careful that we don’t turn away people Jesus died for by our actions instead of helping them to know Him.
In the second verse, he speaks to people who are hesitant to go to church because they’ve had bad experiences. And he encourages them that just because you might have had a bad experience in a church doesn’t mean all churches are that way. We need to gather with other followers of Jesus in community.
Whether you’re challenged to be more loving as you point people to the truth of Jesus, or you’re challenged to give church and Christian community another chance, there’s something in these lyrics that will make you think.
“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:23-25 NLT)
Lyrics
I got some homies that tell me they’ll never step up in the church
I be like, “Why?”
They tell me that they don’t wanna be judged or criticized
Open yo’ eyes
How you gon’ push away the one that He died for?
That ain’t a vibe
You is a sinner, remember the time
Only real eyes realize what’s on the line
Ain’t so ready to die go to Heaven
I ain’t stressin’, I’m bringing it 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚
Sorry, I cannot wait for the reverend
Spread the Kingdom to all of my 𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙨
Can’t wait for him to show me the Scripture
If I did, I’ll be waiting for 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨
Know the answer to all of the tears I cry
Cry, 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚
I got the church jumpin’, like it was in a trap house
Flippin’ the Word up (Ohh, oh)
We flip through the script, like we cookin’ a burger (Mm)
We be all the way turnt up, to the max
I think we need a little more (Whoo, whoo)
I think we need a little more (Whoo, whoo)
We bout’ to put the city on (Ahh)
Oh, Loor-ho-ho-ho (Hmm)
Where do I begin?
Lot of you think that the first verse is because I want you to be locked in the crib (You is wrong)
No-ho-ho-ho-ho
That ain’t the answer, at all
What is to of us three when you gather together
That’s when His presence will fall (Haa-ahh)
So why would you not go to the steeple?
That’s where He went and gathered all his people
You need a brother to help fight the evil, dawg
(Why you so Captain America?)
Oh, so you don’t agree what’s going on?
Well why don’t you speak up and say some’
If you tolerate, it won’t change nun’
You don’t like it, then find another one
I agree that some churches be trippin’ (I went to one)
But ain’t no way you went through the whole world
It might be one right there in your city (Right there)
You need someone outside of yourself (Uh)
Someone that can speak into your life
Boy, you better go cover your head (You better)
You can’t be out here riskin’ your life
Go get it right
